Pizza enthusiasts are licking their lips at the latest project by a group of mates who have taken Main St Mordialloc by storm.

Brett Slaughter, Jimmy Christo, Rob Kent and Cory Jimmieson are no stranger to the restaurant scene, with recently opened Mamma Francas Pizza Hall the latest instalment to their Mordialloc monopoly.

Dubbed the ‘Bayside boys,’ the brains and co-owners behind successful eateries Bang Bang, Main St, Side St, and SunnyBoy Beach Club said they were thrilled to officially open the doors of their new authentic Italian kitchen last week.

Fizzing spritz, stringy mozzarella, saucy pastas and woodfired pizzas pack the flavourful menu, inspired by Mr Christo’s Sicilian mother-in-law and food guru Franca.

“At six years old she was food prepping and by eight making meals for the family … she has a very strong point of view on Italian food and how it is prepared, served and eaten,” Mr Jimmieson said.

“When we understood there was a need for Italian food in the area we started with her … we’ve been trying to shake her meal secrets out of her ever since,

“It’s an honour to open an eatery in her honour and to share the delicious eats with everyone else.”

With head chef ‘pizzaiolo’ Salim Gafayri at the helm, diners can expect some of the best wood-fired Napoli styled pizzas this side of Naples, including the salsiccia pizza topped with soft mozzarella, juicy pork and fennel sausage, and the signature sardine sandwich, packed with fresh Port Lincoln sardines, breadcrumbs, caramelised onions, crunchy pine nuts and sweet sultanas.

Every tastebud is sure to be kept tingling with plant based options and housemade gluten free dough — all of which can be washed down with on-tap ‘All Day’ rose.

The hall is located only a hop, skip, and a jump away from the modern Australian inspired Side St and Main St, Asian fusion hit Bang Bang and coastal chill spot SunnyBoy Beach Club, all situated within a 300 metre radius of the buzzing Main St hub.

Mr Jimmieson said the co-owning foursome, who went to school and reside nearby, have a passion to gain a greater sense of community and deeper development into the area through food.

“More and more people are after that city style dining experience so we’re hoping to accommodate that need in our community,” he said.

“It’s been really exciting to see Mordialloc keep growing … we’re all about community and it really is at the heart of everything we do.”

Mamma Francas is open for lunch and dinner Wednesday-Sunday at Centreway Mordialloc.
