The Hatter and the Hare’s next dinner on Father’s Day with 3 Idiots Richmond chef Pratt Bhoir

It hosted two sold-out nights with MasterChef contestants, now a Bayswater eatery is planning to take its dinner game to another level. With events in the works for the next year, including Father’s Day and even World Vegan Day, here’s what’s in store.

Fresh from a sold-out MasterChef extravaganza, Bayswater cafe The Hatter and The Hare has revealed a new timetable of pop-up dinners — and the next one is coming up on Father’s Day.

Director Becky Buada said the cafe’s recent event with MasterChef contestants Monica Mignone and Derek Lau was so successful, they were now planning more dinners, dubbed “episodes”, for key dates for the next year.

These include for spring, autumn and winter, plus Christmas, Australia Day and even a vegan dinner in November to celebrate World Vegan Day.

Guest chefs will be invited to design the menu and work with the cafe’s team to present the dishes.

“We are all happy with how the pop-up dinner with Monica and Derek turned out,” Ms Buada said.

“The days leading up to the event were quite hectic but all the prep work paid off and the dinner service on both nights couldn’t have run more smoothly.”

She said their kitchen team, headed by chef Brendan Hingston, was now preparing for the Father’s Day event on September 1, with chef Pratt Bhoir from 3 Idiots Richmond putting together a five-course modern Indian feast where “Mumbai meets Melbourne”.

The degustation costs $99 per person, plus $45 with added wine pairings.

And for children aged 12 and under there is a three-course menu for $59.

Ms Buada said people could expect the same high service standards and high quality of dishes at upcoming events, and “an overall wonderful dining experience that can rival the best fine dining venues in metro Melbourne”.
