Westfield Doncaster: Centre’s dining precinct redevelopment starts

The $30 million redevelopment of Westfield Doncaster’s level two food court has started, with the finished product promising twice as many restaurants in a village-style rooftop precinct. Here’s the first pictures of what it will look like.

Construction has started on the $30 million redevelopment of Westfield Doncaster’s level two food court.

The space will be transformed into a village-style rooftop dining and entertainment precinct.

Foodies will have more than twice as many restaurants to choose from, with up to 14 options likely to be on the table when the section is finished early next year.

Complementing the Village Cinemas, the new indoor/outdoor precinct will be open day and night.

Scentre Group spokesman Charlie Rimmer said the rooftop space would deliver a compelling mix of restaurants from much-loved favourites to new culinary experiences.

The $30 million food court redevelopment will see the number of restaurants on offer to diners more than double.

The precinct will feature a rooftop courtyard, village-style laneways, leafy communal spaces and a sculpture garden.

Mr Rimmer said Westfield’s vision for Doncaster was for it to be the must-visit spot for a night out.

“We’re looking forward to sharing more updates and announcing our new restaurant operators as the project progresses,” he said.

Both internal and external areas will feature plants, trees, dappled lighting and shading, making it a destination for family events, parenting catch ups, lunch with friends or dinner and a movie for date night.

Westfield hopes shoppers will want to return for nights out at the new dining precinct.

The $30 million redevelopment — expected to be completed next year — is independent of the centre’s long-term masterplan which was recently approved by the State Government.

The $500 million masterplan redevelopment is subject to further planning approvals.

The plans have progressed since being made public in 2016. The expansion will add another 43,000sq m of retail and 18,000sq m of commercial and officer floor space.

A new high-rise is expected to rise 14 storeys over Williamsons Rd.

There will be further levels of carparking above the multideck carpark, with a new basement carpark to be built beneath the mall extension.
