An elderly woman has died following a horror crash in Aspendale Gardens.

Police understand a grey Holden Commodore sedan was making a right-hand turn from Wells Rd onto Gilchrist Way when it collided with a green Mitsubishi sedan travelling north on Wells Rd just after 12pm on Friday.

The driver of the Commodore, a 54-year-old Dandenong man, was interviewed by police and released pending further inquiries.

A Chelsea woman, 95, a passenger in the Mitsubishi, was taken to The Alfred hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Alfred on Monday reported the woman was in a stable condition.

But a Victoria Police spokeswoman said the woman died today.

Two other Chelsea women, aged 55 and 25, in the Mitsubishi were taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.

A woman, who asked not to be named, said she heard horrific cries seconds after the crash.

“I heard a bang and a woman’s muffled cries, twice,” she said.

“I thought it was people at the end of the street so I rushed out but there was nothing and no further sounds until 10 or so minutes later.

“That’s when I heard all of the sirens and realised it must have been an accident on the main road.”
