As the reigning premier, Prahran already has a few stars.
Now it has a Moon.
That’s Bailey Moon, a promising Victorian under-age fast bowler and lower-order batsman.
The True Blues confirmed today that they had enticed the 19-year-old across from Richmond.
Moon made his top-team debut with the Tigers in 2019-20 and played a mix of First and Second XI cricket last season.
In both grades he’s had some bright moments with bat and ball.
Moon is a member of the Cricket Victoria “emerging players program’’ and did well in the Easter series at Hamilton and Dunkeld.
Right-arm and tall, he gained a lot of attention last season with a bag of 7-22 for the Cricket Australia XI against Vic Country at the national Under 19 carnival.
New Prahran senior assistant coach and talent identification manager Michael Cove coached Moon in Ormond’s John Craig Shield premiership team in 2016-17. He took 3-17 off eight overs in the grand final, dismissing Jake Fraser-McGurk LBW for 8.
“We think he’s a really good young player with his bowling and his batting, and we’re rapt he’s joining us,’’ Cove said.
“We weren’t the only club keen on getting him across from Richmond.
“There’s a lot to like about Bailey and we’re going to work hard with him on developing his game.’’
Moon will join a Prahran pace attack of Andrew Perrin, Matt Wilcox and Nick Boland, strengthened from time to time by club appearances from Will Sutherland.
Wilcox, named in the team of the year after finishing the premiership season with 37 wickets, is staying at the True Blues, turning down offers from local clubs.
The right-armer ultimately decided he had more to achieve at Premier level.
Meanwhile it’s believed Prahran premiership all-rounder Lachie Bangs is attracting interest from Big Bash League clubs.
The athletic left-hander smoked two centuries last season – 103 off 100 balls against Ringwood and a blistering 110 not out off 67 balls against Melbourne University – and came through with a valuable innings of 40 in the semi-final against Fitzroy-Doncaster.
