A MAN has thrown a molotov cocktail into a St Kilda hotel carpark before fleeing on a mountain bike.

Police are investigating after a Molotov cocktail was thrown into a St Kilda car park on 24 January.

Victoria Police spokesperson Leonie Johnson said the man entered the first level of the Canterbury Rd hotel carpark about 8am on January 24 where he threw the exploding object.

The explosion caused a small fire but there was no damage.

The man then fled on a black mountain bike.

He is described as caucasian, aged in his 40s, about 185cm tall, with short dark hair and a tattoo sleeve on his right arm.

He was wearing a distinctive Meerkatsu Kingz MMA lycra top.

Port Phillip crime investigation unit detectives are investigating.
