Man claims sexual assault by female teacher in the early 1980s, sues for damages

A MAN could claim more than $1 million in damages after alleging his female teacher’s repeat sex assaults at her Bulleen home destroyed his life and left him addicted to drugs.

A MAN who claims he was the victim of repeat sex assaults by his female teacher almost 40 years ago is suing taxpayers for damages.

Now aged in his 50s, the man claims the predatory actions of his teacher in the early 1980s destroyed his life.

If successful, his claim could amount to more than $1 million.

In a statement of claim lodged in the County Court, the man claims he has been unable to work since 1999 due to psychological injuries and resultant drug abuse resulting from the alleged paedophile’s abuse.

The man alleges the Collingwood Technical School teacher had repeated sexual intercourse with him at her Bulleen home. He was aged 15 at the time.

The teacher, who was aged 23 at the time, was later sentenced to six months’ jail after being found guilty of sex offences against nine boys aged 10 to 16.
The man is seeking unspecified aggravated damages from the State and his former teacher, who the Herald Sun has chosen not to identify.

As a result of the alleged abuse the man claims he has suffered adjustment disorder and dependency on cannabis, opioids and heroin.

As a result of the alleged abuse, the man claims he suffered from drug dependency.

The man’s writ alleges the abuse was caused by the negligence of the Department of Education in failing to properly supervise either him or his teacher.

He claims the department also failed to ensure his teacher was an appropriate person to be at the school, to instruct or review teachers at the school to ensure they acted professionally, or to have a system in place or ensure he, or other students, were aware that they could report any inappropriate behaviour or sexual assault.

The man further claims the state was negligent by allowing the teacher to remain at the school when its officers knew or ought to have known she was engaged in inappropriate behaviour by having sex with school students.

According to his writ he has incurred medical expenses, is now permanently restricted in employment and will experience ongoing and prolonged periods of unemployment due to his ill health and drug dependence.
