A Glen Iris aged care centre remains open and fully accredited despite not meeting some accreditation standards during an audit.
The mecwacare Noel Miller Centre was found to have fallen short of three requirements during a review audit in November by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission.
Two of them related to personal care and clinical care, with the assessment team finding ineffective care processes for recognising and managing pressure injuries, wound care and continence care.
The report said “several consumers and representatives expressed a level of dissatisfaction with some aspects of care”.
The other requirement related to human resources.
mecwacare chief executive Michele Lewis said the Noel Miller Centre remained fully accredited and had “a long history of compliance”.
“We were offered an opportunity to improve in two areas, which we addressed,” she said.
“At no time was there any risk to our residents’ safety.
“We encourage and welcome feedback and are continuously looking at ways to improve.”
Aged Care Quality and Safety Commissioner Janet Anderson said the recommendations made by the assessment team differed from the findings in the decision and the commission did not vary the accreditation period, which runs until October 2, 2021.
“All providers are required to maintain compliance with the standards at all times,” she said.
“Where the commission identifies noncompliance, (it) may take a number of regulatory actions and will continue to monitor the service to ensure it makes the necessary improvements to return to compliance.
“If anyone has a concern about an aged care service, they should phone the commission on 1800 951 822.”
The centre met all expected outcomes during its previous four audits, dating back to 2009.
It offers single-room accommodation to 138 residents, each offering ensuite bathroom facilities.
