Cost of Melbourne storms to Glen Iris, Malvern, Camberwell, Warrandyte residents add up
The huge amount of damage to cars, especially in Glen Iris, Malvern, Malvern East, Camberwell and Warrandyte, after the recent wild storms, has led to a national insurance company setting up an assessment centre. More than 500 vehicles are being looked at every day.

The cost from last week’s catastrophic hailstorms in inner eastern Melbourne continues to add up.
One national insurance company has set up a temporary dedicated assessment centre in Mt Waverley to measure the impact, which has included thousands of damaged cars.
AAMI spokeswoman Angela Wilkinson said claims were still being received and the full impact would “not be known for several weeks”. She said the worst impacted areas were Glen Iris, Malvern, Malvern East, Camberwell and Warrandyte.
“As with most hail storms, we are seeing dints and smashed windows on vehicles, and damage to roofs and skylights for homes and businesses,” she said.
“The majority of claims relate to motor vehicle damage.”
The last time a similar event occurred in Victoria was more than two years ago.
Ms Wilkinson said the centre was established to “quickly assess and triage all hail-affected vehicles” to make the repair process “as seamless and efficient as possible”.
The centre has looked at more than 500 hail-damaged vehicles a day.

AAMI urges insurance customers impacted by the storms to lodge their claims as soon as possible at aami.com.au or phone 13 22 44.
Once the claim is lodged, customers will receive an appointment time and location to bring their vehicle for assessment.
