Trains were back running through South Yarra railway station earlier than expected after summer works on the Metro Tunnel project finished ahead of schedule.
The Cranbourne, Pakenham, Frankston and Gippsland lines returned to normal service on Monday after crews worked around the clock through the holiday period to ensure major construction was finished in time for the start of the new school year.
In January the final sections of concrete were poured for the tunnel’s roof slab, along with 1.8km of track installed to connect the existing Cranbourne and Pakenham lines to the Metro Tunnel.
