Coronavirus Stonnington: South Yarra, Prahran, Prahran East and Windsor have highest active cases

A new hotspot has emerged for active coronavirus cases has emerged in Stonnington — with one suburb adding more than 10 active cases in the past week.

A new hotspot has emerged for Stonnington’s active coronavirus cases – with the virus spreading significantly in three suburbs on the area’s border.

Data obtained by Leader shows another seven active cases were confirmed in postcode 3145 – home to Darling, Darling South and Malvern East since Thursday, August 6.

The number of active cases in the postcode had jumped from 12 to 19 as of Thursday, August 13.

All of Stonnington’s remaining postcodes recorded more extra active cases last week, with the exception of 3144 – Kooyong and Malvern – which saw its total drop by four cases from nine to five.

Stonnington’s two biggest clusters by postcode – 3181 (Prahran, Prahran East and Windsor, total 21 active cases) and 3141 (South Yarra, total 18 active cases) added two each to their tallies.

Postcode 3146 – Glen Iris – recorded four more cases in the period to bring its active cases total to 15, while 3142 (Toorak and Hawksburn, five active cases) and 3143 (Armadale and Armadale North, seven active cases) added three more each.

The State Government has imposed stage 4 restrictions in Stonnington and the rest of metropolitan Melbourne until at least September 13.

Under the restrictions, residents can only travel within a 5km radius of their home address.

Face masks remain mandatory for all Victorians outside of the home.

There is a curfew between 8pm-5am, and residents are limited to one hour of outside exercise per day.

Only one member of each household is allowed to make one trip to the supermarket for essential items each day.
