WorkSafe investigating Ballarat Clarendon College

A cattle feedlot operator will be hauled into court this month after being charged over the death of a worker in northern Victoria two years ago.

According to WorkSafe, the 29-year-old was stacking bales of hay at a Gerang Gerung property, north of Horsham, when overhead powerlines came into contact with the machine he was working on.

The man died by electrocution.

WorksSafe has since laid two charges against Harmony Operations Australia Pty Ltd for failing to provide and maintain a healthy and safe working environment when the incident occurred in November 2020.

The company was allegedly in violation of sections of the occupational health and safety act when it did not create an exclusion zone around the power lines.

It is also alleged to have failed to provide employees with adequate safety information.

The company will face Horsham Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing next week.
