A heartbroken mum has paid tribute to her son after his tragic death, saying she will “love him forever”.

There was a tragic end to the search for a missing Echuca man Daniel Rayner this week, with friends and family paying tribute to the young dad after his death.

Police had been searching for Mr Rayner since Monday night, and had concerns for his safety and welfare.

The 33-year-old was last seen leaving Hume St, Echuca, about 11.30am on Sunday, January 14.

Police helicopters and SES volunteers had been searching the area for Mr Rayner, but his family took to social media on Tuesday night to confirm he had died after his body was found in the Murray River about 11pm Tuesday.

His mum Angela Murray told the Herald Sun her son was “loved by all who knew him”.

“He had a huge heart and would help so many people,” she said.

She said Daniel had loved fishing with his mates and having a laugh but loved his children most of all.

She said Daniel would be dearly missed but was now reunited with his dad, who also died at a similar age.

“He missed him every day now they are together again doing burn outs and skids in the heaven’s sky,” Ms Murray said.

“Rest in peace my first born son I’ll love you forever because I am your mum.”

More tributes have been left on Mr Rayner’s Facebook page.

“I wish you knew how many people cared and loved you bro – rest easy I love you,” Crystal posted on his page.

“️Fly high – 33 forever young.”

Karl Weis said despite lives going down “different paths”, Daniel was a “big part of (his) life”.

“I will never forget all those late night engine swaps, camping trips, fishing trips and random missions we used to go on,” he said.

“I will cherish those memories forever.”

Nathan posted: “Fly high bro, had some killa memories back in the day mate, keep watching over those kids of yours man. I know you tried so hard to fight the fight.”

Police will prepare a report for the coroner and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
