The latest in Goulburn Valley police news: Thieves of alleged stolen vehicle charged, man arrested after allegedly causing three-car crash

Two men have been charged with theft while, in a separate incident, a man has been arrested after allegedly causing a three-car collision on the Hume Fwy.

Here’s the latest in Goulburn Valley police news:

Alleged thieves charged

Two alleged car thieves have been charged by police.

Campaspe Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged two alleged thieves with theft after they were found in Mooroopna about 12.30pm on Sunday driving what appeared to be a stolen vehicle.

Police attempted to intercept the Isuzu ute on Riverview Dr but the pair fled.

Stopsticks punctured the car’s tyres on McLennan St, according to a police spokesperson, before the men dumped the car on Park St.

A 26-year-old Moama man was charged with home invasion, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a handgun.

He was remanded to appear at the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A 25-year-old Shepparton man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and bail offences.

He was released on bail and will face the Shepparton Magistrates‘ Court in August.

Three-car crash ends with arrest

Emergency personnel were called to the Hume Fwy where a maroon Holden Commodore, a Hyundai wagon and a livestock transport truck had collided.

Following the Thursday evening collision, police — assisted by the Air Wing — located and arrested the driver of the Holden Commodore about 150m from the collision after he allegedly fled the scene.

The 32-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and is currently under police guard.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said four people were assessed at the scene.

A man believed to be in his 40s was taken to Northeast Health Wangaratta in a stable condition with back pain.

Two primary school aged children were taken to Northeast Health Wangaratta in a stable condition.

Another man, believed to be in his 30s, was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Leading Senior Constable Jody Clayton said officers were investigating a number of calls to Triple Zero regarding a vehicle travelling at excessive speeds and on the wrong side of the freeway prior to the collision.
