One man has been charged after dramatic scenes unfolded in Shepparton and Mooroopna when police swooped on two homes.

Shepparton Crime Investigation Unit detectives arrested two men and executed two search warrants on Wednesday following an investigation into alleged incidents where victims were threatened with a firearm on May 6.

Police, armed with guns and wearing tactical uniforms, descended on a Hawdon St address in Shepparton about 5.50pm on Wednesday.

Ali Aber, a 25-year-old man, was taken into custody and continues to assist police with their inquiries, according to a police spokesperson.

He said the arrest was part of an “ongoing investigation”.

A white Volkswagen Golf — which police allege was stolen — was also seized during the search warrant.

Detectives, with assistance from specialist police, executed the second search warrant and arrested a 32-year-old Mooroopna man Nathan Babarovich in Elsie Jones Dr about 7pm.

The search warrant led to the seizure of a Ford Ranger utility vehicle and a quantity of cash.

Mr Babarovich was charged with nine offences.

The charges against the man included being a prohibited person possessing a firearm, making threats to kill, reckless conduct endangering life, assault with a weapon, threats to inflict serious injury, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, theft of motor vehicle and possessing proceeds of crime, according to Leading Senior Constable Kendra Jackson.

In an after-hours bail hearing, Babarovich was remanded to appear before the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Aber and Babarovich will again appear at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court later this year.
