Strathmerton man dies after alleged attack involving Numurkah man

A man has been charged with manslaughter and a woman with assault three months after the death of a Strathmerton man, who was allegedly attacked at a service station.

Homicide squad detectives have laid more charges over a fatal crash that left an eldery man fighting for life in hospital for months before he died.

A man and a woman allegedly attacked the 73-year-old man in Strathmerton on August 8 during which the pair struck him with their car.

Emergency services arrived at the Murray Valley Highway about 1.15am before the man was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he died almost three months after the ordeal on October 28.

Detectives have re-arrested a 42-year-old Numurkah man and charged him with manslaughter following his initial arrest and assault charge around the time of the incident on August 9.

He will appear before the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Police also charged a 42-year-old Numurkah woman with assault on August 9.

She will appear at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on December 10.

A Victoria Police spokeswoman said investigators believed the pair and the elderly victim knew one another.

Detectives are not searching for anyone else over the alleged attack.
