A group of alleged attackers remain on the run after two men were seriously injured in a violent alleged aggravated burglary in Shepparton last Friday night.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Shortis of the Shepparton Criminal Investigation Unit said it was a “significantly violent incident”, with one of the men still fighting for his life in hospital.

Police believe a group of five men attended a Sidney Court property about 9.20pm on September 2, before entering and engaging in an altercation with the two residents.

The residents were both seriously assaulted, with one man, aged in his 20s, receiving a life-threatening stab wound to the leg.

The second man, aged in his 30s, received head and upper body injuries.

Both were taken to the Goulburn Valley Hospital.

“It’s our belief it is likely to be some kind of targeted incident, however the reasons for that are still unclear,” Detective Shortis said.

It’s believed the group of men left the address, located near two playgrounds and the South Shepparton Community Centre, and ran into nearby Vibert Reserve.

Police ask for anyone who witnessed the men in the area on the night to come forward.

The members of the group are all perceived to be of African appearance and were wearing dark clothing on the night.

“There was a significant amount of blood at the scene so we believe it’s likely that those involved were wearing blood stained clothing,” Detective Shortis said.

Detectives have also been told members of the group may have been seen in Sidney Court in the days leading up to the incident.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area between Wednesday, August 31 and Saturday, September 3 to contact police.

The alleged attackers remain on the run.
