A man was busted with meth after he threw a syringe out of the window of a house he had broken into.

Selwyn Briggs, 37, pleaded guilty at the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Friday to seven charges including possessing methamphetamine, possessing a prohibited weapon without exemption, entering a private place without authority or lawful excuse, two counts of committing an indictable while on bail, contravening a conduct conditional of bail and theft from shop.

The court heard Briggs entered a Sobraon St home in Shepparton where he threw a syringe — believed to have contained methamphetamine — out the window about 11am on June 16.

Police were near the home and discovered Briggs was not meant to be inside the property, arresting him and taking him to the Shepparton police station.

Two days later about 4.15pm, police found Briggs in the driveway of the same house.

When officers approached Briggs they found a taser in his pocket, confiscated it and took him to the Shepparton police station for an interview.

Court documents read out by the prosecutor revealed earlier in the year on April 26 Briggs entered Kmart in Shepparton and took a backpack off a rack and filled it with chocolates and items, valued at $80.

Briggs left the store through the rear emergency exit.

On another occasion, police saw Briggs riding a motorbike and pulled him over on May 17.

Briggs was wanted for the Kmart theft and was arrested and again taken to the Shepparton police station.

“I was hungry and I went to steal some chocolates, I’d like to apologise to Kmart,” Briggs said at the time.

Defence lawyer Emma King said Briggs had trauma and was homeless for large portions of his life, but recently purchased new clothes with his own money.

Ms King added Briggs managed to get himself a Disability Support Pension (DSP) and wanted to stop ending up in court.

“I want you to stop coming back here too,” Magistrate Ian Watkins said to Briggs.

Briggs was convicted and fined $250.
