They’ve been caught fanging down residential streets, high on drugs and the need for speed, while others have narrowly avoided head-on collisions.

One crim was even warned by a magistrate to shape up or face being dead or in long-term jail by the time she is 35.

TROY JOACHIM

Learner driver Tory Joachim was given his final warning by a magistrate after leading police on multiple high speed chases through Shepparton.

Twice in May and June last year, Joachim was spotted driving without L-plates and accelerating “erratically” before driving at speed through main streets.

During the June incident, he was caught speeding at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone down St Georges Rd with smoke “pluming” from the car’s tyres as he took tight turns.

On July 3, he narrowly avoided a head-on collision and ran at a red light after police tried to chase him in Kialla.

A search through Joachim’s bedroom the same day revealed items which had been stolen from four cars and a shed in Shepparton from April to June.

The items included World War II medals, $2100 in Indian currency, and a number of bank cards, and the search also revealed 4.29g of cannabis and one large sword.

He was sentenced to three months prison and an 18-month community corrections order.

Shepparton drug dealer Malaka Mifka led police on a high speed chase last year while high on meth.

Mifka was spotted travelling at more than 150km/h in a 60km/h zone down Orrvale Rd, Shepparton with different front and rear number plates on the car.

Stop sticks were deployed by police at the Doyles Rd and Poplar Ave intersection but Mifka tried to evade police causing her to hit a road sign.

A police search found a small clear bottle of GHB and a small ziplock bag of meth hidden in her bra.

An oral fluid test detected the drug in her system.

While on bail for the incident, Mifka was caught doing 100km/h in a 60km/h zone with police not chasing the driver due to the speed.

The vehicle was later found at a residential address in South Shepparton where the accused and passenger ran away.

A search of Mifka’s handbag uncovered a brown powder thought to be MDMA, a white tablet, a number of empty ziplock bags, a large amount of “drug paraphernalia” and a “large amount” of liquid GHB.

She was sentenced to 100 days in prison, which was served in pre-sentence detention, and a 18-month community corrections order.

Jamaine Baksh

A notorious hoon, Jamaine Baksh, spent last Christmas behind bars after speeding through residential streets in stolen cars at 100km/h.

Baksh faced more than 100 charges in November related to theft, reckless conduct, and driving while disqualified dating back to December 2018.

In one incident, he was seen driving a stolen Mercedes at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Baksh’s lawyer Luke Slater described his client’s high speed driving as “an addiction, a rush he needs” and referred to research from the World Health Organisation to qualify why young men tended to drive dangerously.

“I’ve been interested in why young men in Australia seem to drive very dangerous,” he said.

“And driving seems to be almost a hobby in that age group of males in Australia, more so than what occurs in Europe.”

Baksh was sentenced to two-and-a-half years jail with a non-parole period of 12 months.

His driver’s licence was also disqualified for two years.

Matthew Sorbello

A serial hoon left another driver “a shell of (his) former self” after running him off the road in January 2020.

Matthew Sorbello pleaded guilty to drug, driving and theft charges at Shepparton Magistrates’ Court in October.

Sorbello was changing lanes erratically in his friend’s ute on the Midland Highway towards Mooroopna when he overtook the victim and clipped the front of his car.

The victim’s sedan veered off the road into the trees, where it spun and landed on the embankment leaving him with broken ribs and a finger.

The driver told the court he had been forced to stop working because of the accident and could not get behind the wheel.

Meanwhile, Sorbello ditched the scene and later rang a friend to tell him he caused an accident, telling him: “I don’t want to go back to jail.”

On January 23, Sorbello drove an SUV into a tree with drugs in his system and was caught speeding at 100km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Chloe Kimberley Schuback

A pregnant woman was captured with meth in her system on her way to Kyabram District Health Services “to sort out things for her pregnancy”.

Chloe Kimberley Schuback pleaded guilty to a series of unlicensed driving offences, including drug driving and speeding, earlier this month.

Police pulled Schuback over in June 2019 after she was seen driving down the Goulburn Valley Hwy without a seatbelt, or a driver’s licence, in an unregistered car with no number players – failing an oral fluid test which indicated she had meth in her system.

Schuback was also caught doing 114km/h in June 2020 telling police she was late for an ultrasound.

Her lawyer Matthew Mahady said the mother-of-four struggled with a long-term drug addiction and a traumatic brain injury following a horrific crash in 2016.

Mr Mahady said Schuback was left in an induced coma with a fractured skull following a single vehicle crash more than five years ago.

Magistrate Russell Kelly warned the mother that she was “spinning out of control” under the influence of drugs and “no hope” male friends.

“You’ll either be dead or in long-term jail by the time you’re 35,” he said.

Schuback was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections and lost her licence for 12 months.
