A pregnant mother busted driving to hospital with meth in her system was warned she would spend her 35th birthday in jail or a casket unless she changes her ways.

Chloe Kimberley Schuback appeared in Bendigo Magistrates’ Court last week, and pleaded guilty to a series of unlicensed driving offences, including drug driving and speeding.

Court documents show the mother-of-four’s recent trouble with police started when officers pulled over the woman at Nagambie on Friday June 7, 2019.

Schuback was driving down the Goulburn Valley Highway without a seatbelt, or a driver’s licence, in an unregistered car with no number plates.

Police prosecutors said the woman told officers she was going to Kyabram and District Health Services, “to get things sorted for her pregnancy”.

The pregnant woman failed an oral fluid drug test, which found methamphetamines in her system.

According to documents this was not the only time Schuback was busted breaking road rules on her way to a prenatal treatment.

Schuback was clocked speeding through a 100km/h zone at Timmering, west of Kyabram on June 29, 2020.

The court heard the unlicensed driver told officers she was speeding at 114km/h because she was late for an ultrasound.

Her driver rap sheet was also marred by three other disqualified driving incidents, two in Echuca in December 2019, and another in the Kyabram district in June 2020.

The 27-year-old admitted to shoplifting $23.83 worth of butter and marinated roast beef in February 2020, and failing to pay for her stay at a Kyabram caravan park in April 2021.

Schuback also pleaded guilty to assisting in the retention of stolen goods, after stolen cars were left at her property in July 2019.

Her lawyer Matthew Mahady said the mother-of-four struggled with a long-term drug addition and a traumatic brain injury following a horrific crash in 2016.

Mr Mahady said Schuback was left in an induced coma with a fractured skull following a single vehicle crash more than five years ago.

“Since that time she really has struggled,” Mr Mahady said.

In Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday April 13 Schuback pleaded guilty to all charges.

Magistrate Russell Kelly warned the mother that she was “spinning out of control” under the influence of drugs and “no hope” male friends.

“I hope you enjoyed the past five days (in custody),” Mr Kelly said.

“You’re at the fork in the road now.

“This is your last chance.

“You’ll either be dead or in long-term jail by the time you’re 35.”

Schuback lost her driver’s licence for 12 months and was granted an 18-month community corrections order, despite a report saying she was at a high risk for reoffending.

Her corrections order will include mental health, drug treatment, judicial monitoring and an offending behaviours program.
