Murray League club Deniliquin announce Ash Morris as coach

A Murray League club has turned to a former Richmond VFL player and competition best and fairest winner as its senior coach for 2022.

Deniliquin has turned to one of its own for next season with Ash Morris named as the club’s new senior coach.

The former Richmond VFL representative will take over from co-coaches Sam Hall and Tim Holobowski who have led the club to seventh position on the ladder this season.

As a player, Morris has been limited to just two games this season and brings plenty of experience having won the Murray league’s best and fairest, the O’Dwyer medal, back in 2013.

The changing of the guard will see Morris step up from the assistant coaching position he has held this year.

He will be assisted by Jack Tyndall who was part of the Rams premiership side in 2011.

Club president Clint Free said despite the announcement of a coaching change the club remained focus on a strong finish to the 2021 season with Hall and Holobowski in charge.

“I’m so proud to have two guys who are so passionate about our club taking on these roles,” he said.

“Ash and Jack are quality people and have played a big part in helping us turn around some low player numbers in recent years.

“We couldn’t be happier with this appointment and can’t thank our current co-coaches Tim and Sam enough for what they’ve done in the past few years.”

In a Facebook post announcing the appointment, the club said Morris “is a fine role model to all young footballers with his leadership qualities, focus on skill development and attention to fitness”.

“He’s also a big believer in developing our own junior footballers to achieve success at a senior level,” it said.

“Both Ash and Jack came through our junior ranks and are heavily invested in the club and the development of our talented juniors.”
