Greater Shepparton City Council releases Mooroopna Recreation Reserve’s makeover plans

From new changerooms to a kiosk and even a dog park — Mooroopna’s Recreation Reserve is set to become a state of the art sporting facility. SEE THE PLANS.

Mooroopna Recreation Reserve will be transformed into a state of the art sporting facility under a new masterplan.

Greater Shepparton City Council released its highly anticipated proposal on Wednesday.

It includes new football and netball changerooms, a multipurpose facility and toilet and kiosk buildings.

The sports stadium, raw water access, and Max Connors Pavilion toilets will also be upgraded, and there will be an off-leash dog area within the harness track.

Deputy mayor Rob Priestly said Mooroopna was one of the region’s fastest growing communities and therefore deserved only the best facilities.

“The Mooroopna Recreation Reserve has some ageing facilities, so it is time to bring clubs, community and council together to forge a plan for the future,” he said.

“The space is home to a trotting track, two ovals, grass and hard surface tennis courts, lawn bowls, croquet, netball, a fire brigade training area, playground and a number of toilet and change facilities as well as a functions and event centre.

“While the venue is regularly used by locals, it also hosts a number of major events each year and has capacity to host national standard activities.”

Initial stakeholder consultation has been undertaken with user groups of the reserve, council officers and peak sporting associations.

Cr Priestly said council was now seeking the community’s feedback to help guide the final plan.

“Now is the time for Mooroopna locals and users of the recreation reserve to take a look at the draft master plan and share their thoughts,” he said.

“Have your say and make sure the plans for the reserve meet the growing needs of Mooroopna residents and the region into the future.”
