Missing Golden Point man Gary Butt’s belongings discovered at Shepparton East
The belongings of a missing elderly Ballarat man who suffers from dementia have been found following an extensive search by police and SES crews.

An extensive search east of Shepparton for a missing Ballarat man has resulted in the discovery of the belongings he had on him when he was last seen.
Golden Point’s Gary Butt, 73, was last seen at the Shepparton railway station on September 22.
On October 16, Shepparton and Ballarat police alongside 45 SES volunteer searched the Midland Highway in Shepparton East, covering farmland, orchards, irrigation channels and grassland near the road.
Police found a green bag with Mr Butt’s personal belongings inside it in near the intersection of the Midland Hwy and Central Ave on Wednesday afternoon.
He has no ties to the Shepparton region and is without his medication and his phone.
He has also had limited access to food and clothing.
Police will continue to look for Mr Butt but at this stage there are no plans to continue the search at Shepparton East.
Residents and farmers in the region are encouraged to look for Mr Butt as he may be in a shed.
