Man in hospital after truck sparks Kyabram grassfire

A truckie has been rushed to hospital as firefighters battle a grassfire – believed to have been sparked by his vehicle – in the state’s north.

An out of control grassfire is sending smoke over communities in the state’s north.

The fire, which began at Kyabram about 6.10pm, is travelling in an easterly direction.

Residents in Kyabram, Kyvalley and Tongala have been advised to monitor conditions.

The fire is believed to have been sparked by a truck at the intersection of Curr and Gray roads in Kyabram.

The driver of the truck has been taken to Echuca Regional Hospital.

The man is believed to be in his 50s.

About 20 vehicles are battling the blaze, and police cordons are in place on the boundary of the affected area.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
