Charges against a Benalla teenager have been dropped after an altercation that left a father-of-two dead last October.
Benalla teen Joshua Williams, 19, has been freed after facing serious charges following a fight that broke out on a residential street last year.
Martin Woods, 63, died at The Alfred hospital on October 28 following a fight on Ballantine St on October 11.
Mr Woods had reportedly been riding a modified ride-on mower earlier on the night before he was found seriously injured.
A golf club had allegedly been used in the fight.
Mr Williams initially faced charges of intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury and affray, before the matter was taken over by homicide detectives following Mr Woods’ death.
After further investigations, including reinterviewing witnesses, the charges against Mr Williams were withdrawn.
Mr Williams was due to return to court today.
Police have confirmed Mr Williams has been released from custody and the coroner will examine the matter.
The criminal investigation is now viewed as complete.
Mr Woods, from Ballarat, had his ashes spread at Lake Wendouree.
