A male passenger remains in a serious condition following a two-car crash in Victoria’s north.
Fireys were forced to use a chainsaw to cut a person free from the wreckage of a car involved in a horror collision.
Two people were taken to hospital after a Holden station wagon and a 4WD collided in Nathalia.
Emergency services including police, paramedics, SES and the CFA were called to the scene on Boaden St and Dillons Lane just before 6pm on Tuesday.
Numurkah Police Station Leading Senior Constable Damien Duggan said the passenger in the Holden station wagon, a 66-year-old man was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Royal Melbourne Hospital confirmed on Wednesday the man is in a serious condition.
He said the female driver of the Holden, believed to be in her 60s, was taken Goulburn Valley Health with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the four-wheeled-drive, a man believed to be in his 30s, was also treated by paramedics.
“At the moment the collision is being investigated by police — initial indications show that one of the vehicles has crossed through a give way sign,” Senior Constable Duggar said.
“That vehicle was traveling in a western direction and it’s failed to give way at an intersection causing the collision.”
He said he was relieved there were no life-threatening injuries.
“In any collision where you’ve got within 200m of a signage transfer up to 100km/h — you’ve always got a chance of more severe injuries. In this case luckily enough we’ve only got three persons injured,” Senior Constable Duggar said.
“It’s hit on the front passenger side which initially caused some concern because it’s gone in around the front passenger — luckily enough the local SES and Rescue from Shepparton attended to get that patient out.”
Senior Constable Duggar added a chainsaw was required to cut down trees to “facilitate” the removal of the vehicles.
“It was to gain further access for the SES when they were using their jaws and their cutters because they’re quite a long implement so we had to remove some trees so that they gained access” he said.
“Victoria Police urge drivers to take care and obey the road rules — there’s too many crashes that are occurring.”
The investigation into the collision continues.
It comes after woman died in another two-car collision in Nathalia last Friday.
