Elmore car crash: Teens among those arrested over car theft

Five people — including four teens — have been charged after an allegedly stolen car spun out of control and crashed into a fence near Elmore.

Five people — including four teenagers — have been charged following the alleged theft of a car in the state’s northwest over the weekend.

Kyabram police were called to the scene of a car crash at the intersection on Bendigo-Murchison Rd and the northern highway, Creek View, south of Elmore about 3am on Saturday.

A police spokesperson said the car appeared to have been travelling along the Bendigo-Murchison Rd before it continued through the intersection and crashed into a wire fence.

An investigation by detectives revealed the white Kia Cerato hatchback 2020 model was allegedly stolen from Melbourne’s northern suburbs on Thursday.

A number of calls were made by members of the public to emergency services within the following hour, alerting police to five people who were causing issues on Elmore’s Main St.

A 14-year-old boy, two 17-year-old boys, a 16-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man were charged with theft of a vehicle, theft of petrol and other traffic offences.

Those charged will face court at a later date.
