A woman has escaped death by mere “centimetres” after her car collided with a truck in Victoria’s north.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Doyles Rd and Channel Rd in Orrvale, just outside of Shepparton, just before 9am on Thursday.

Shepparton Police First Constable Ryan Lindsay and Senior Constable Bernie Cline said the truck driver, who was heading south, had no injuries.

The young woman, believed to be in her 20s, was exiting a driveway when she collided with the oncoming truck.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said the woman was taken to Goulburn Valley Health in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

“It was a heavy hit and it’s just luck as it was only centimetres away from being a fatality really,” Senior Constable Cline said.

“I suppose if she had have been just been a little bit faster or slightly slower and it hit her that fraction of a second different from where it did, it would be a whole different story — it was a very lucky escape.”

Fire Rescue Fire (FRV) crews also assisted with the clean up of the scene and Senior Constable Cline said they were great assistance.

A local towing company removed the vehicles from the scene.

“It was cleared very quickly and everyone was very efficient — we’re too used to it,” Senior Constable Cline said.

He urged road users to have a good look before they entered roads to ensure it was safe to proceed.

“Don’t be distracted by anything inside or outside the car,” he said.

“This goes for all the different busy occasions such as the footy events that are held every Saturday.

“Shepparton is a strong football community.”

Emergency services were also called to a collision on Mansfield Rd in Benalla just after 8.30pm on Wednesday.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was taken to Northeast Health Wangaratta in a stable condition with upper body injuries.

Anyone with dashcam footage of the Orrvale crash is urged to contact the Shepparton Police Station on (03) 5820 5777.
