The owner of a multi-purpose sport therapy clinic in Victoria’s north, that suddenly closed earlier this month, has confirmed the business went into liquidation.

Clinic owner Cher Hetherington announced the reason for the business closure on Facebook.

She said the clinic had shut down due to the financial impacts of the 2022 October flooding as well as the lasting effects of the pandemic.

Ms Hetherington expressed “deep sadness” on the closure.

Although the business was able to reopen for a while after Covid, Ms Hetherington said it was unable to keep “building as necessary” as the increase of costs become a bigger issue and being unable to hire more employees, followed by the floods.

She stated all these impacts meant continuing on was not an option and the fight was over.

“My heart breaks that it cannot continue,” she wrote.

Despite the loss of the studio, Ms Hetherington said she hoped to resolve and make changes for the future.

Earlier in May, FIX Movement Performance Clinic in Shepparton informed its clients the clinic had shut down via a text message.

The Corio St business offered physiotherapy, remedial massages, yoga, kinetic link training, clinical pilates, corrective exercise classes and myotherapy.

There were 27 employees listed on the company’s website.

“I attend Pilates twice a week and have done so since Cher started taking Pilates,” client Amanda Beks told the Goulburn Valley News.

“I love the facility and its vision for total health care both mind and body — It’s almost a second home,” Ms Beks said.

Liza Costigan, another client from the clinic, said she was devastated when she received the text message on May 7.

“I was initially confused because I thought well maybe they don’t have enough staff or something’s going on,” Ms Costigan said.

“The owner Cher is a fantastic business operator — she’s very generous with the community and I know during the Covid period she supported other community services by providing online classes for people that were working from home and struggling a bit.

Ms Costigan said there was “lovely community spirit” going at the studio.

“There was no indication up until it all occurred from Sunday and Monday that there were any issues and any emails where they were struggling,” she said.

Ms Costigan hopes the clinic comes back and will remain a customer of theirs.

“They certainly have a strong community following so hopefully they bounce back at some point — if they find a new location people will definitely support them,” she said.
