CFA and FRV crews quickly extinguish ‘fully alight’ shed fire on Craigmuir Dr in Mooroopna

A small engine mechanic’s shed in Mooroopna was engulfed by flames on Tuesday night causing residents across the area to hear the sound of explosions.

Firefighters responded quickly to a shed fire that was discovered fully ablaze in the state’s northeast on Tuesday night.

Police, three CFA units from Mooroopna and Shepparton and FRV were called to the scene on Craigmuir Dr in Mooroopna just after 8.40pm to reports of flames and explosions in the area.

Once crews arrived they were confronted with a “fully alight” 5m x 8m corrugated iron shed.

Shepparton CFA commander Jarod Issell said it was a “fairly innocuous sort of fire”.

“Unfortunately the owner — a small engine mechanic — has finished for the day and locked the shed and unfortunately it looks as though something's caught alight a period of time later,” he told the Herald Sun.

“It’s just an unfortunate thing.”

Nobody was inside the shed at the time and nobody was hurt by the blaze.

Breathing apparatus crews were required and relevant power and gas companies were notified to attend.

A CFA spokesperson said it took four firefighting appliances under 30 minutes to bring the fire under control by 9pm.

The incident was deemed safe just before 11.30pm.

A police spokesperson said the fire was not being treated as suspicious at this stage.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be the subject of an investigation.

Police assisted with traffic control at the scene.
