Callum Kirk and Rebecca Williams charged over alleged torture of Sally-Anne Edmondstone: Court

A Benalla woman who was letting her friend live with her while she found a place to stay was allegedly raped, tortured and imprisoned by the mate and her partner.

A couple has been accused of torturing a woman, allegedly strangling her with an electrical cord and raping her.
Callum Kirk and Rebecca Ann Williams fronted the Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on November 7, facing multiple charges over the alleged unlawful imprisonment of Sally-Anne Edmondstone in her own home.

Police allege Mr Kirk, 35, and Ms Williams, 40, assaulted and tortured Ms Edmondstone, who had been letting the pair live with her while they looked for a place for themselves.

Ms Williams is accused of helping Mr Kirk rape their housemate, before he then allegedly exposed his penis and masturbated towards her.

The couple is also accused of torturing their alleged victim, with police alleging Mr Kirk wrapped an electrical cord around her neck and Ms Williams put a knife to her throat.
The 29-year-old was left with seven fractures to her ribs, four in her upper spine, a fracture to her temple, burns all over her body and a swollen neck and throat, and spent weeks in intensive care at The Alfred after the alleged assault.

Mr Kirk and Ms Williams appeared in court via links from correctional facilities, where they had been in custody since charges were laid in August.

Neither made an application for bail.

Three witnesses will be cross-examined at a committal hearing in Wangaratta in March next year.

Outside court, Ms Edmondstone said she was “dreading summer” due to the pain she had suffered from her injuries.
“I realise how much my life has changed and will be this way for a long time to come,” Ms Edmondstone said.

“I’m grateful my face did not get burnt.
“I will have horrific scars for the rest of my life.”
