A Bendigo family has been left devastated after the death of a young mother of three who was found on the kitchen floor by her children.

Briana Sanders, 28, was found unresponsive by her three young children, at their Eaglehawk home on March 15.

Scared and confused about why mummy was not waking up, the children Facetimed their grandmother and Briana’s mum, Nicole Pemberton, who rushed to their home.

On arrival, Ms Pemberton found Briana, blue in the face and without a pulse. She immediately performed CPR on her daughter while waiting for the ambulance but nothing could be done.

However, doctors have been unable to determine the cause of Briana’s death despite doing an autopsy.

Ms Pemberton told the Herald Sun she could not fathom how a “fit, healthy 28-year-old just dropped dead”.

“Doctors are not saying anything. They say we don't know how she died,” she said.

“At first I thought maybe it was a head injury and I was thinking to myself she has to come back.

“The doctors said when they do a brain scan in the autopsy, hopefully the brain scan will show something, but it didn’t. We’re in shock.”

Briana, who had given up her previous job to help her five-year-old, Theo, beat cancer, had started a new job as a receptionist last month.

Ms Pemberton said Briana was “just getting her life in order” and had “so much more to give”.

“We just got Theo through his cancer treatment and he should be getting on with his life. But now he’s got to do it without his mum … he just can’t understand why mummy hasn’t come home,” she said.

Ms Pemberton said Briana was an amazing and devoted mother who lived for her kids.

“She was talented in everything, from baking cookies to making Halloween and Book Week costumes, she was always doing something for the kids,” she said.

“The kids were her number one. She didn’t care about herself, it was just the kids.”

An online fundraiser has been organised for Briana’s funeral to help ease the financial burden on the family as they navigate organising a funeral and caring for three young children, which has raised $1550 of the $5000 target.

“It’s too overwhelming, and I’m too numb,” she said.

Ms Pemberton said she thanked everyone who took the time to donate.

“It means a lot.”
