A mobile phone or iPad charging on a mattress caused an early morning emergency in Black Duck when it caught fire.

A CFA spokesman said the service was called to the home about 4am on Monday.

He said working smoke alarms alerted the five occupants who were able to evacuate.

The fire remained in the room of origin.

Seven firefighting units from Kilmore, Wallan and Broadford attended the blaze.

The CFA spokesman said the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, as the occupants of the house had closed the door to the room with the fire which kept it contained.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics responded to the incident about 4.15am.

“A woman in her 30s and two children were treated at the scene,” she said.

“No emergency transport was required.”
