A suspect arrested for the alleged 2000 murder of gangland figure Richard Mladenich will remain behind bars over Christmas as his lawyer waits on key evidence from Victoria Police.
Tomislav “Thomas” or “Little Tommy” Ivanovic was arrested on October 31 after police renewed their hunt to catch those responsible for the shooting slaying of Carl Williams’ hitman at a St Kilda hotel in May 2000.
Ivanovic has not been charged with that murder.
He has been charged with two counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception.
The charges relate to alleged offences committed in Sunshine on September 7.
Ivanovic today fronted Sunshine Magistrates’ Court unshaven and wearing a Nike jumper via video link for a brief mention hearing.
His lawyer Anthony Condello was successful in obtaining a court order which required Victoria Police to hand over a brief of evidence by December 16, including full transcripts of phone intercepts, SMS and MMS intercepts.
It’s understood the evidence spans a month.
Mr Condello told Magistrate Mick Wardell the request for evidence was to help expedite the matter.
Mr Condello made no application for bail.
