A Maryborough teacher facing a string of sexual assault and rape charges has been committed to stand trial.

Francis Xavier Crameri, 63, faced the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court during an all-day committal hearing on Wednesday.

During the hearing the magistrate heard from a range of witnesses, including the complainant, about what is alleged to have occurred on Monday 12 October, 2020.

The court was closed during this process.

The court also heard from the complainant’s general practitioner and the police informant.

According to charge sheets, Crameri is charged with four counts of sexual assault and two charges of rape.

The charges were brought by the Central Victorian Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

In February, Crameri’s teaching registration was cancelled for five years after his working with children’s card was cancelled.

At the conclusion of Wednesday’s hearing Crameri told the magistrate he would plead not guilty.

The magistrate found he had been presented with enough evidence to support a conviction and ordered Crameri to stand trial in the County Court.

Crameri will next appear in the County Court for a directions hearing in July.
