An imitation AK-47 has been seized in Port Melbourne during a sweep of raids against a major drug ring.
Investigators seized 1kg of MDMA and a bulletproof vest at Hampton and arrested four men as they carried out warrants through the southeastern suburbs.
The operation came as part of a five-month Caulfield divisional response unit investigation into drug trafficking through the southeastern suburbs.
A search of a home on Olive St, Hampton, uncovered 1kg of MDMA with a street value of $250,000, cocaine, ketamine and steroids.
A ballistic vest, ammunition, fake identification documents, a stun-gun and butterfly knives were also confiscated.
The fake AK-47, cocaine, MDMA, testosterone and electronic devices were seized in a raid on Ross St, Port Melbourne.
Two commercial pill-presses and other drug-manufacturing equipment were found by investigators at a factory in Graham-Duff Boulevard, Braeside, where 55 cannabis plants, GHB and ammo were also taken away.
A warrant was done on a Chesterville Rd, Moorabbin, automotive business where two cars, one of them a Holden Commodore stolen from Dandenong, as well as a boat and trailer taken from Carrum Downs last year, were seized.
The operation also involved officers from Mornington Peninsula CIU, Moorabbin CIU and the dog squad.
A 53-year-old Hampton man has been charged with trafficking and possessing drugs of dependence and equipment for manufacturing drugs, cultivating a narcotic plant, and possessing ammunition.
A Port Melbourne man, 21, was charged with possessing an imitation firearm, possessing cocaine and ecstasy, as well as four counts of possessing drugs of dependence. He was also charged with four counts of failing to provide assistance or information under warrant.
A 22-year-old man from Hampton faces counts of possessing prohibited weapons and ammunition and failing to provide assistance to police.
They were bailed to appear in Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on June 6.
Police said an 18-year-old man also arrested at the Hampton property was released pending summons for weapons-related offences.
