Essendon collision: Woman dead after two Mount Alexander collisions within hours of each other

Residents have witnessed one woman hospitalised and another dead after a pair of harrowing crashes at the same Essendon intersection within hours of each other on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Mount Alexander and Keilor roads in around noon after reports of a collision at the busy roundabout.

Police believe a grey sedan crashed into the tram on the 59 route around midday but investigations into the incident are still ongoing.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was transported to hospital in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. Paramedics confirmed no one else was injured as a result of the collision.

Police were still on the scene around 1pm to direct traffic through the intersection as a grey sedan was loaded onto a tow truck.

Emergency services were back on the scene an nearly two hours later after reports of another collision at the same spot.

It is understood a mobility scooter crashed into the tram at the Mount Alexander Rd intersection around 1.45pm.

The incident saw a woman taken to hospital for treatment on her injuries while the tram was evacuated but no one else was injured.

The 99-year-old Essendon North woman died from her injuries at hospital and police preparing a report for the coroner.

It is not the first incident to occur on Mount Alexander Rd this month after an elderly man died after being hit by a cyclist.
