Officer: Teens spotted near allegedly stolen car in Piggott Street

A group of teens allegedly made a run for it after being spotted near a stolen Nissan in Officer, but police were in hot pursuit.

A group of six teenagers allegedly made a run for it after being spotted near a stolen car in Officer.

But quick-thinking police chased after them and arrested them shortly after.

The teens were first spotted in Piggott St after a caller to triple-0 reported a group of youths acting suspiciously near a car about 6.45pm Monday.

Attending officers checked the registration of the 2017 Nissan X-Trail and confirmed it was stolen.

As police approached, the teens allegedly ran from the scene in varying directions.

But uniformed members were able to run after and catch them, arresting three boys and three girls nearby.

All six have been processed by police in relation to the theft of a car.

A 13-year-old boy, who was also wanted in relation to a number of outstanding matters, has been charged with: three counts of theft of motor vehicle, four counts of burglary, four counts of theft, handle stolen goods, and commit indictable offence while on bail.

He has been remanded to appear before a children’s court.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with theft of motor vehicle and handle stolen goods.

He has also been remanded to appear before a children’s court.

The three girls, aged 13 and 14, have been cautioned in relation to theft of motor vehicle.

The third male has been released and is expected to be charged on summons.

The car was allegedly stolen during an aggravated burglary in Glen Iris on January 30.

The investigation remains ongoing.
