The bliss of enjoying a casual beer while snacking on crispy pork skin and salted peanuts is about to become a reality in the eastern suburbs.

An authentic neighbourhood Vietnamese beer hall is opening its doors at The Glen’s new outdoor dining precinct.

Renowned Melbourne restaurateur Jerry Mai — owner and chef of Annam and Pho Nom — is opening Bia Hoi at The Glen, with the beer flowing from August 1.

With a name that translates to draft beer, Bia Hoi promises a relaxed atmosphere with causal, simple, beer-friendly cuisine that can be enjoyed with mates.

The restaurant will celebrate Vietnamese beer culture at lunch and dinner but also offers bottomless brunch on Sundays.

Lanterns and old wooden shutters straight from Hoi An provide an authentic touch to the venue.

“There is something electric about the beer halls in Vietnam, where people kick back and have a great time enjoying beer made just down the road,” Ms Mai said.

“The atmosphere is always light and fun and there is a sense of community togetherness.

“I wanted to replicate that with Bia Hoi out at The Glen.”

Growing up in Springvale, Ms Mai said opening at The Glen was a “personal full circle”.

Ms Mai said she hoped the community would use it as a place to get together over a drink and meal to enjoy each other’s company.

Snacks on the menu include crispy pork skin, salted peanuts and dried squid.

There will also be Vietnamese barbecue tables where guests can grill their own wagyu beef, shellfish and skewers.
