Victoria Police stop speeding drivers on Monash and Tullamarine after Eastern Freeway crash

Hoons speeding at more than 70km/h over the speed limit have been caught on Melbourne highways today just days after four police officers were killed on the Eastern Freeway.
A 49-year-old Gladstone Park man and a 28-year-old Mt Waverley man will both be summonsed to court after two separate incidents.
Victoria Police media officer Nikki Ladgrove said police were patrolling the Tullamarine Freeway when they saw a black Holden Commodore ute doing 156km/h in an 80km/h zone in Gladstone Park at 9.30am.

Ms Ladgrove said officers stopped the car and performed a drug test on the driver — a 49-year-old Gladstone Park man — who allegedly tested positive to methylamphetamine.
She said police impounded the man’s car for a month and will cost him $896.10 to have it released.

The man is expected to be charged on summons with speeding and drug driving offences.
Later in the afternoon police stopped a Mt Waverley man in a Mitsubishi sedan after he was allegedly seen doing 173km/h in a 100km/h zone on the Monash Freeway in Notting Hill about 1.45pm.
The Mt Waverley man also had his car impounded for a month at a cost of $896.10 and is expected to be charged on summons with speeding offences.
