The schoolboy reportedly got off a bus at a bus stop on Boronia Rd near the intersection of Canterbury Rd, before he ran across the service lane into the path of a car.
He was struck by a Toyota Corolla driven by a 22-year-old Ferntree Gully woman.
Sgt Webb said the incident was low-impact because the driver was going at a slow speed in the service lane when she saw the boy and began braking.
He said the driver would not be charged because she was not at fault.
