A Bayswater North woman fled the scene of a hit and run where she ran into a motorbike with her car, sending the rider flying nearly 20m, a court has heard.
Molly Hill pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where she put on an 18-month community corrections order, which includes 100 hours of unpaid community work and mandatory mental health treatment.
She was also disqualified from driving for four years.
Hill initially got out of her car and went over to look at the victim, before rushing back to the driver’s seat of her silver Holden Astra and reversing up Greenhill Rd and away from the scene.
Onlookers, including an off-duty paramedic and a 15-year-old boy, rushed to the aid of the man and called emergency services.
The motorcyclist was left with multiple broken bones, including a broken back.
A harrowing Victim Impact Statement was read out by the police prosecutor at Hill’s sentencing.
The statement detailed how the victim was in constant pain, had lost everything, and can no longer work, adding, “suicide crosses my mind from time to time”.
“I am constantly filled with dread. Simple tasks are too much for me,” the statement continued.
“This is the nightmare that is now my life.”
Magistrate Hayley Bate said the way Hill acted following the accident was “plainly callous.”
Ms Bate continued saying, “the offending was extremely serious,” and added the repercussions were, “significant, prolonged and likely to be felt by the victim for the rest of his life.”
