A man who helped scam an 89-year-old man claimed he didn't know where the money came from.
Glenn Randall appeared before the Ringwood Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to his part in the scam.
Two of Randall’s family members went to the home of an 89-year-old man on December 20, 2022.
The men demanded the victim hand over cash, as he had done previously, but the man refused.
The men left the home, before one returned and asked to borrow his phone.

The victim let the man borrow his phone and he proceeded to transfer $6000 to Randall’s bank account.
The man also tried to impersonate the elderly man on the phone to his bank to get more of his money but they were unsuccessful.
Once the money was in his account, Randall then transferred half of it to his co-accused and withdrew the other $3000 from the bank.
Randall claimed he had no idea his family members had scammed the old man for cash, but was paid $500 by the men for the funds to pass through his bank account.
He was convicted and sentenced to a six month community corrections order.
Randall will also have to complete 30 hours of community work.
