Police catch drink drivers on Monash Freeway as part of massive crackdown
Police have been “shocked” by the results of an operation on Monash Freeway where one in every 70 motorists was over the limit.

One out of every 70 motorists tested was allegedly busted drink driving on the Monash Freeway as part of a massive police crackdown.
The operation, which ran from February 10 to 11, caught 41 drivers over the limit, including 12 probationary drivers over the zero blood alcohol limit.
One P-plater allegedly recorded a reading of .192 before their vehicle was impounded and licence suspended.
Additionally, six drivers were allegedly busted with drugs in their system.
Southern metro division three Superintendent Jo Stafford said the shocking results were “extremely concerning”.
“These results are shocking,” she said.
“To detect so many drink drivers in just two nights is extremely concerning.
“Choosing to drink and drive demonstrates blatant disregard not only for your own safety but the safety of your passengers and all road users.
“There is absolutely no excuse for drink driving. Police are conducting alcohol tests at every opportunity and if you think you won’t get caught – think again.
It comes after one in every 301 motorists tested were allegedly driving with alcohol in their system across the Australia Day weekend.
Forty-nine lives have been lost on Victorian roads this year which is up from 37 at the same time last year and the five-year average of 31.
