Mulgrave crash: Witness’ Mercedes stolen near Springvale road

A good Samaritan who rushed to lend a hand at a three-car collision in Mulgrave had his Mercedes stolen by one of the men involved in the crash.
The incident follows a series of crashes involving stolen cars and car thefts that have happened in Monash in recent weeks.
Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Paul Egan said the man happened to be by the crossroad of Wellington and Springvale roads about 6am this morning when a car went through a red light, hurtling into two cars passing through the intersection.
The man quickly stopped his Mercedes and ran to check if any of the drivers or passengers in the three damaged cars were injured.

Sgt Egan said a man then got out of the back seat of the car that had caused the crash and asked if everyone at the scene was OK, before he ran over and jumped into the Mercedes and drove off.
The driver of the car which had caused the crash then drove away in the damaged vehicle.
Sgt Egan said police suspect that car had also been stolen.
The six people in the remaining two cars were not injured.
Sgt Egan said police believe the theft of the Mercedes was an opportunistic theft.
