A motorbike rider was carrying a dozen bottles of wine when he was caught riding with an alleged blood alcohol content almost six times the legal limit.
Police were left gobsmacked by the actions of the 58-year-old Glen Waverley man, who was among 13 drivers caught on Forster Rd, Mt Waverley yesterday afternoon.
Senior Constable Adam West said the rider stopped just short of where police were testing for drink drivers and scanning number plates on the roadside about 4.30pm.
He said when officers asked the man to get off the bike, he did so slowly, taking care not to knock the dozen bottles of wine attached to the back of the seat.
The rider was made to do a preliminary and an evidentiary breath test and allegedly returned a reading of .291.
His licence was suspended and his motorbike was impounded.
He is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
Mt Waverley police Senior Sergeant Mark Standish said it was disappointing to see such a high reading.
“That’s almost six times the legal limit,” he said.
Sen-Sgt Mark Standish said the other results from the operation were also disheartening.

One driver was caught with an alleged blood alcohol content of .14, three drivers were caught speeding, and one was caught without a licence.
Two tickets were given out for not wearing seatbelts and five drivers were caught in unregistered vehicles.
“It’s disappointing to see that there were so many people breaking the road rules,” Sen-Sgt Standish said.
He has taken to the Eyewatch — Monash Police Service Area Facebook page to urge drivers to do the right thing by themselves and other users.
