A youth armed with a baseball bat took a swing at a luxury Mercedes as a terrified 36-year-old man reversed quickly out of his driveway to avoid being carjacked.

The man had pulled into his Doncaster East home, just off Blackburn Rd, about 11.20am on May 20, when he spotted a teenage boy getting out of the back seat of a Holden Commodore armed with the bat.

Two other boys, also believed to be in their mid to late teens, were in the Commodore.

He shut his garage, put his car into reverse, and sped away only to be followed by the other car.

The man was followed all the way down Blackburn Rd to the Doncaster Rd intersection but the crooks abandoned the chase when he turned right, after apparently realising that he was headed to the nearby police station.

They chose instead to continue south down Blackburn Rd.
Nunawading highway patrol Sergeant Paul Egan said the victim reported the matter to Doncaster police.

The youth who got out of the car is described as 175cm and skinny, and was wearing a dark coloured hoodie and baseball cap.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

WONGA PARK

Inexperience, loose stones and debris are believed to have caused a motorcyclist to lose control of his bike while turning right at a Wonga Park intersection on May 18. The 19-year-old was riding north on Homestead Rd and slowing in the approach to Lower Homestead Rd, when he lost control of his bike about 3.15pm. The P-plater hit some loose stones and debris, coming off his bike and smashing into a guard rail. No other vehicles were involved and he was taken to The Alfred hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Sgt Egan said police would take no further action due to the condition of the road and the rider’s inexperience.
