Karen’s Diner: Rude restaurant set to open at Forest Hill Chase

An opening date has been locked in for a restaurant famed for its deliberately rude service, in a big boost for a struggling shopping centre dining precinct.

A restaurant chain known for “badass burgers” and “100 per cent rude staff” has diners in Melbourne’s east in its sights.

Karen’s Diner has confirmed it will open at Forest Hill Chase shopping centre on August 18, following social media posts and listings on its website.

It will be the second Melbourne restaurant for the chain, joining one on Lygon St which opened earlier this year.

Karen’s also has six other restaurants throughout Australia and three in the UK.

“Karen’s will be opening at Forest Hill Chase Shopping Centre, a place known for quality dining and we are no exception,” the chain stated on its website.

​“Expect some great food but really, really terrible service as we look to bring some shake with extra sass south of the border.”

The arrival of the diner is set to give a much-needed boost to Forest Hill Chase’s level three dining precinct, The Loft, which has struggled with a string of closures and a quiet atmosphere in recent times.

Karen’s has described itself as “an interactive diner and an absurdly fun experience”, with its menu filled with burgers, chicken wings, hot dogs, loaded fries, salads and cocktails.

Due to the use of rude language, diners under 16 are required to be accompanied by a parent at all times, while the venue is for over 18s after 5pm on weekends and 6pm on weekdays.

“At Karen’s you will be greeted and waited upon by rude waiters who in return are expecting you to give it full Karen,” its website reads.

“A place where you can complain until the cows come home because we literally don’t care.

“Our staff are rude, our manners are non existent and we’re the perfect place for Karen’s everywhere to vent their anger and dismay at the world.”

The chain also offers anyone who is named Karen a free drink upon showing their ID.
