“I want all future bike lanes to be protected bike lanes — subject to engineering advice — and I want to see how we can best achieve the aim of having 25 per cent of vehicles entering the CBD in the morning be bikes,” she posted.
Ms Yang said she wanted to ban oBikes “until they stop littering our street and meet community expectations”, while a review of Melbourne Council’s bike and walk plans was also a priority.
“I will investigate creating a specialist section within council to deliver the Bike and Walk Plans. As Lord Mayor I will cycle around our city and be an active ambassador for cycling,” she said.
Voting has now closed in the by-election which was called after former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned amid sexual harassment allegations.
The VEC will publish provisional results information at vec.vic.gov.au between Friday and Sunday May 18 and 20. Candidates can appoint scrutineers to observe the counting process.
