Glenny Kebabs opens at Century City Walk, Forest Hill to follow

Fans of a popular Glen Waverley kebab van forced to leave its previous service station base after a series of disputes are rejoicing after it found another home. The new offering launches tomorrow, with plenty of fresh menu additions.

Glenny Kebabs will make its official debut at Century City Walk amid much fanfare on Saturday.

Drummers, a DJ, musicians and maybe even some 24-carat gold-plated Harley Davidsons could be on site for the celebration.

It comes after a tumultuous time for the business at its previous home base, a Caltex service station site on Springvale Rd.

The new store is a few hundred meters away from the old site.

Owner Asad Syed said it was a dine-in restaurant with 48 to 60 chairs and an “overseas feel”.

“We are trying to get a lot of students. We will have a study area, power-points and a dining area for them,” Mr Syed said.

“Menu-wise we are revamping it all — it has gone from just kebabs and HSPs, now we have a huge variety of desserts.”

The new desserts include churros made from Oreos, as well as an ice-cream filled hot doughnut.

Nachos, mi goreng, coffees and milkshakes will also feature.

Despite enduring a rocky period at its previous site, Mr Syed said he was “pretty sad” to see it go.

“A few days ago when we were ripping down the sign, reality hit,” he said.

“We have met so many people there over the last few years.

“But we’re pretty excited for the new shop and looking forward to it.”

While cars and motorbikes were part of the culture of the Springvale Rd site, Mr Syed hopes that to be a big part of a forthcoming opening in Forest Hill next year, which is slated to have a 100-seat outdoor restaurant.

The store will officially open at noon on Saturday and will then be open 11am-1am daily.
